Change Begets Change

"They say that time changes things but actually you have to change them yourself." - Andy Warhol

Ta Dah!  Monday has once again arrived!  Remarkable!  Contrary to what Andy says in this week quote, somehow the days do seem to go marching on and change all by themselves.  They seem to do it without much prompting on our part!

What indeed does need our focus and attention is what we do with those days.  For sure this is the time of year when change seems to be hovering all around us.  Kids back in school with different life opportunities before them as well as nature telling us to get ready for the change.  Yesterday I spent some time starting to move plants indoors and putting out a little fake fall foliage in some on the front pots that are starting to wane.

We had a very cold and rainy weekend, which, I suppose is what got me in the mode.  Even cranked up our heating stove for the first fire of the season.  It's funny at this time of year because the gardener in me is resolved to what is to be...I know I must begin to prepare for the inevitable change and tucking my garden in the for winter.  Since I had a late start in getting my garden going this year it makes it a little tougher...especially saying goodbye to my Zinnia's that barely have had a chance to bloom.

But I have found the more you resist change in the garden and in life the more it bite's you in the fanny.  I spent some special time with a friend this past week that shared a wonderful story of how last year she finally gave in to making a major change with the romantic relationship in her life that had not been working very well for some time.  Within two months of ending the relationship and moving on, she found something she didn't believe existed - her soul mate.  Her happiness is just glowing off of her and I couldn't be happier for her.

Crazy as this may sound - the other night when I was putting away the dishes from the dishwasher I got to thinking about dishes and all inanimate objects for that sake.   These things, because they have no life force within in them, just go wherever they are put.  The dishes get eaten on, washed, put away and eaten on again.  At some point some even get smashed into pieces and then thrown away!  Finished, kaput!  Unless they end up in a recycling situation and then they might get a new lease on their lifeless, life.

We however, as human beings, get to participate in life fully.  We don't have to go with the flow and just get put where other people put us - we have a say so in what we get to do.  Yes, some days it may seem like we are just doing what we have been programmed to do - or what others want us to do - but that is when we need to shake it up a bit and come into our own.

In the weeks ahead as we watch nature make the changes necessary for protecting herself against the winter chills how about we once again look at what inner changes may need to happen for each of us?  What protective ways could we invoke that would bring us new possibilities in each of our lives?  What big step could we take forward that would give us a new lease on joy and total fulfillment in our life?

I challenge you to open your mind - get the cobwebs out of your brain cells and see what you can see that could use a little (or a lot) of revamping or shaking up in your life.
