"No Limit for Better" - A Russian Lady Architect

Today's quote was in the Sunday paper yesterday, in an interview that was given in the Parade magazine.   Harrison Ford shared about his time as a contractor, before becoming a movie star.   When he wanted to improve a design element presented to him by, as he phrased her, a Russian Lady Architect, she was open to the improvements he had to offer, as she shared those words with him.

Don't you love the idea of that?  Being open for constant and ever changing improvements that a variety of minds has to offer each of us.  We all can learn and grow from each other if we choose to. These thoughts come on the heels of having just spent this past Friday and Saturday hosting a Victory Circles Facilitators Training.   While it was my role to teach, each of the ladies who attended shared such riches as well.  We all had the opportunity to learn.  It was a wonderful enriching experience!  I thank each of them for their rich and generous participation.

It brings home even more clearly this morning, the third excerpt from Jim Rohn's, The Seasons of Life.

"Let winter find you planning for the arrival of spring, not contemplating the errors of commission and omission of last year.  Let winter find you with a joyful countenance and a happy heart...with a good word for all those around you; with confidence in the future, not apprehension; and finally, with gratitude for your achievements, adversities, and uncertainties of life, for each is a form of blessing which removes all limitations from the future possibilities of life.

Winter is a time for examining, pondering, and introspection.  It is a time for re-evaluating both purpose and procedure - for rediscovering an often misplace sense of purpose.  It is a time for finding new ways for solving old dilemmas, and for devising unique plans for contributing to others, less fortunate than ourselves.  It is a time for understanding and controlling anger, that frequent human emotion which causes us to pass judgment without fair deliberation.  It is a time to analyze our fairness and to overcome our tendency to hastily spew forth condemnation without full investigation, for such is the height of ignorance.

Winter is a time for being sincere with ourselves, about ourselves, when the tendency is to fool ourselves.  It is a time for developing skills that allow us to get along with imperfect people, for even a fool can get along with perfect people.  It is also a time for becoming wise enough to know what to say.  The wisdom that comes with the careful use of winter teaches us also that evolution is merely revolution at a slower pace, and that constant gradual change is the order of the universe.  Only those worthy human attributes of honesty, loyalty, love, and trust in God and in our fellow man are meant to remain constant.  Winter is a time for being grateful for our achievements, or for having endured our lack of achievement."

As you begin to move into this 11th day and second week of the new year, it's important to hold the thought of the how we can constantly be a source for improvement in the world around us.  Ask yourself, who is your "Russian Lady Architect" the person who gives you permission to constantly improve and make what you create even better?  That is the person or people that we really want to surround ourselves with each and every day!

Keep your planning for the year ahead strong - don't let it wane just because 10 days of 2010 have passed us by.  Stop and enjoy the simplicities of life while planning on the variety of riches you have the ability to create in the year ahead.

This mornings picture (taken by my husband, Ed)  is an example of how a simple element of a barn overlooking Boulder came into someone's vision to paint a straightforward US flag.  They saw a blank canvas and made it better.  Over the years this barn has become a landmark here in Boulder County.  What will your landmark be in the year ahead?  What are simple improvements you can make that will make all the difference to your life and lives of those you touch?
