Last week our Victory Circles embarked on a 30 day-challenge to create an audio recording, or photo or video every day. The goal is to get focused on creating content that will drive their marketing efforts.
Not an easy challenge to be sure, however, the end results will be extremely beneficial for each person who actually does it. The key and the reason to do any kind of a challenge is to get yourself into the habit of doing something of value in your life: whether it is to get healthier or to build your business skills.
The fall season is beginning to become more of a reality with the fruits of the summer season beginning to fully ripen. Now is the time to pick the things in your life that you have wanted to harvest.
One of the principles that Napoleon Hill wrote about in his Law of Success was that of Concentration. A skill set that is even more fully required in this day and age of so many distractions at our fingertips. Without the ability to focus, acquiring a new habit that leads to our success can take us so much longer.
If you fully focus on harvesting one fruit (habit) of choice and take the required time to put it into action you will gain the addition of that added benefit into your life.
To help you and the members of the Victory Circles along, I thought I would share today the five rules that Napoleon Hill shared on how to form a habit. Keep in mind that Napoleon refers to the goal that your habit creates as your Definite Chief Aim.
Five Rules to Form a New Habit
1. At the beginning of the formation of a new habit, put force and enthusiasm into your expression. Feel what you think. Remember that you are taking the first steps toward making your new mental paths, and it is much harder at first than it will be afterward. At the beginning make each path as clear and as deep as you can, so that you can readily see it the next time you wish to follow it.
2. Keep your attention firmly concentrated on your new path building, and forget all about the old paths. Concern yourself only with the new ones that you are building to order.
3. Travel over your newly made paths as often as possible (thus the 30 day challenge idea). Create opportunities for doing so, without waiting for them to arise by luck or chance. The more often you go over the new paths, the sooner they will become well worn and easily traveled.
4. Resist the temptation to travel over the older, easier paths you have been using in the past. Every time you resist a temptation, the stronger you become and the easier it will be for you to do so the next time. This is the critical time. Prove your determination, persistency, and will power now at the very beginning.
5. Be sure you have mapped out the right path as your Definite Chief Aim, then go ahead without fear and without allowing yourself to doubt. Select your goal and make good, deep, wide mental paths leading straight to it.
It is amazing that Napoleon wrote these words in 1927 after interviewing the most successful business people of the day as they still ring true today.
