"I will never forget that day in 2009 that I went with my Mom to get the results of her most recent test during her three-year battle with Ovarian Cancer. The doctor asked if she could talk to me privately in the hallway before talking to my mom and dad.
It seemed odd but of course I said okay and found the doctor standing there in the hallway outside the room in tears. She told me she was about to deliver to my mom the worst of the worst news. My mom only was now expected to live less than 6 months. It was heart telling in how much my mom touched peoples hearts that this fairly hardcore doctor was struggling with the news as well.
You see after a bone marrow testing they had discovered that my mom had contracted Leukemia from the chemotherapy treatments she had been receiving. The Leukemia not the Ovarian Cancer would be her final downfall. Within two months of sharing this news with my mom she made her final departure from the planet. There simply was nowhere for her to turn with the form of Leukemia she had contracted.
We searched and searched in vain for a cure – or even a way to prolong her life…for my mom it was too late but not for the those still fighting the disease today. In 2016 alone an estimated 60,000 new Leukemia cancers were diagnosed and 24,400 people lost their lives from the disease.
I can’t do anything to help my mom at this point but I can for other families who have been given the same devastating news as we help fund money for the cure.

"I have known my Pedal Girls riding partner, Cheri, for 31 years and, over those years, have met and become friends with many members of her family, including her mom, Jeannine.
Cheri's mom was kind, caring and always had a smile on her face. Cheri loved her, and I loved her too. So when Cheri asked me to join her in raising money for LLS and riding 100 miles in memory of her mother, I immediately said, "Yes!"
Even better, we get to ride around beautiful Lake Tahoe, where I'm sure around every turn in the road, we will be reminded of Jeannine, her beautiful smile and be grateful for the memories she left with us."
